News from Alan's Desk
What’s Alan
doing: I've been to a symposium in Sydney
on CEREC computer milled dental ceramic restorations. Read more

What’s
Clare doing: She celebrated her
birthday recently and went away
to Whakatane for four days hoping for sunshine. Sadly, no such luck, but
we birthday decorated the practice for her and had
a morning tea shout in her honour.
Feature
article: CADCAM ceramic dental
material closest to natural tooth in strength and
looks.
Notes from
Alan
Redecorated
premises creates relaxed atmosphere
The practice has been
painted recently, the carpets cleaned and lino polished, and is
looking great. All rooms are now colour co-ordinated using
Dulux Dannevirk and Oreti. This along with the new halogen
lighting has created a more spacious and modern look. I
have added frosted film to my surgery window which gives a cleaner
look while improving your privacy.
We have had fantastic
feedback from patients about how relaxing the ceiling TV and
cordless headphones are. We have a selection of DVDs for your
entertainment, but why not bring your own to your next
appointment?
The new branding and
logo fits well on an updated website which provides
extensive information to our patients on most dental topics.
Check it out! www.dentalexcellence.co.nz .
Dental

Karen is now selling
dental products online. If you forget to pick up your dental
supplies from the practice, visit www.widesmile.co.nz to have
them couriered to you.
Thank
you!
My practice relies on
personal referrals for new patients. Thank you to all of
you who recommended me to your friends and family. I
appreciate your referrals and want to say thank you.…. so watch your mailbox for gift
from me.
Waikato
Bridal Expo
Clare and I exhibited at
the wedding expo, which has been great fun. The Hamilton Gardens
venue was well presented and many businesses were exhibiting
their wedding related products and services. We were promoting
BEYOND tooth whitening so the bridal party's teeth could be as
beautiful as the bride's white dress. We were a
major prize sponsor in the MoreFM wedding starter pack prize,
donating a BEYOND tooth whitening to the lucky bride to
be.
My moment of fame on the
radio came when I was interviewed live by KM about the tooth
whitening process. Listen to the interview (2Mb) and the
prize
draw (3Mb).

Ceramic
Reconstruction (CEREC) using Computer Aided Design and Computer
Aided Manufacture (CADCAM) technology.
Last month I was invited
by Sirona Dental to attend a symposium in Sydney on the latest
CEREC Bluelight computer controlled dental milling machine and the
new e.max ceramic blocks from Vita for creating amazingly strong and
durable natural tooth-like
restorations.
Using modern computer
technology we can restore your teeth with a dental ceramic that not
only is as strong and hard wearing as natural tooth material, it
also looks like natural tooth.

While dental materials
have advanced tremendously in recent times, there are still many
shortcomings, even with the 'white' composite resin filling
materials. Silver amalgam isn't natural looking and
can cause cracks in the tooth while composite resins are better
looking, but can wear down and leak over
time.
Gold has literally been
the 'gold standard' for many years even though porcelain crowns have
been made for many years also. Those hand manufactured dental
porcelains can fracture due to microscopic imperfections unavoidably
introduced in the hand manufacturing process. They also are
actually harder than natural enamel and can cause wear of the
opposing tooth if not properly glazed or
polished.
What this type of
restoration can do is get you from here...

so that you don't get a
cracked tooth that may be painful or need to be
extracted!
