Treating children & adolescents

Helping children build healthy smiles for life

Positive dental experiences early in life can make a lasting difference. Our team provides dental care for children and teenagers in a friendly, supportive environment, helping them feel comfortable while building healthy habits that last into adulthood.

Whether it's your child's first visit, a routine check-up or treatment during their teenage years, we aim to make every appointment as relaxed and positive as possible.

Preschool and primary school children

Children in New Zealand are entitled to free basic oral health services from birth to 17 years of age (until their 18th birthday). In the early years this free service is provided by Dental Therapists in community based clinics or via the mobile dental units that visit schools.

We treat many preschoolers and primary school age children of our existing patients. It’s perfectly fine for parents to elect for their children to see us rather than undertake treatment at the community based clinics. However, this treatment does incur a private fee.

Year 9 to age 17

Dental Excellence is contracted to provide free basic dental care for eligible Year 9 students through until their 18th birthday.

This includes routine examinations, x-rays where needed, fillings and other approved treatments under the public funding programme.
