Wisdom Teeth
Wisdom teeth causing problems?
Wisdom teeth are the last adult teeth to develop and usually appear between the ages of 18 and 25. While some wisdom teeth come through normally and never cause problems, many people simply don't have enough room for them.
When wisdom teeth become impacted or only partially erupt, they can lead to pain, infection, swelling, damage to neighbouring teeth and other oral health issues.
At Dental Excellence, we can assess your wisdom teeth and help you understand whether treatment is necessary. If removal is recommended, we'll talk you through your options and develop a treatment plan that is right for you.
When should wisdom teeth be removed?
Wisdom tooth removal is often recommended when teeth are:
Impacted or partially erupted
Causing pain or infection
Difficult to keep clean
Damaging neighbouring teeth
Increasing the risk of future oral health problems
In many cases, removing wisdom teeth earlier in life can make treatment and recovery easier.
Comfortable treatment options
Wisdom tooth removal can often be performed right here at Dental Excellence in our comfortable Hamilton practice. Depending on the complexity of your treatment, we may recommend:
Local anaesthetic
Intravenous (IV) sedation with local anaesthetic
Referral for treatment under general anaesthetic if required
Dr Neil Piccione has extensive experience in wisdom tooth surgery and is certified to provide intravenous sedation, helping many patients feel relaxed and comfortable throughout their procedure.
